Dyeing of synthetic textiles
Cationic red dyes are especially suited for dyeing synthetic fibers like polyester and acrylic because of their positive charge. Cationic red dyes bind to the negatively charged sites on the polymer chain of the synthetic fibers, creating brilliant and long-lasting colors. A phosphate buffer solution is needed when dyeing synthetic textiles to maintain the dyes and fabrics at the ideal pH.

Cationic red dyes are usually used in the dyeing and printing of cotton fabrics where high color strength, wash fastness, brightness, and easy care have to be promoted. Cationic dyes are also used in surface coating in dyeing paper for magazines, brochures, and art papers. Besides, cationic dyes are commonly used in surface dyeing for high-brightness color and depth in leather for products like shoes, bags, belts, and upholstery.

Cationic red dyes are commonly used in cosmetics and hair dye products because of their ability to bind efficiently to the negatively charged sites on the keratin protein in the hair. This allows hair dyes to penetrate better and give even color, more vibrant, shinier, and longer-lasting colors. Cationic red dyes are also useful in developing antistatic conditioning sprays and leave-in conditioners that bind to the hair shaft, reducing frizz and improving moisture retention.

Antibacterial and biomedical applications
The antibacterial properties of cationic dyes, especially against gram-negative bacteria, make them potential candidates for antibacterial and biomedicine applications. Cationic red dyes can be integrated into medical textiles, surgical materials, wound dressings, and coatings to provide color and antibacterial properties while potentially preventing infection.
